One month down already! Whoah where did that go?!

One month down already! Whoah where did that go?!

Already a twelfth of the year has passed us by. But not before we've built a roof, constructed swings, tugged ropes and generally had a grand old time in Worcester's secret central woodland.

We can't wait for more Home Edding, Monday volunteering, Saturday japes and alternative Tuesdays! Bring on February!

And remember: There's no such thing as cold weather; just not enough clothes or running around! 😉❄️

Gratitude or shame?

Difficult to know whether to feel a deep embarrassment at the huge amounts of litter that local people throw over the wall on Lansdowne Crescent, or indeed a huge throbbing gratitude and pride that members of our Friday Home Ed community, choose to go and clear it away pretty much every week- despite the fact that it's very much outside of the area we use for our sessions.

Out of sight, but not out of mind, it seems...

Our Friday community is completely self-directed (like all of our sessions). Therefore, everyone opts into what they do, and almost all activity is child-initiated. This is the case for our litter picks, which have always been requested by children, most weeks in fact. Once kitted out appropriately, and agreements made regarding how we'll combat the risks of such an activity, the team leaves our main site and heads across to the main areas affected by littering. A wondrous and wholesome way to spend an hour or so.

We're not all holier-than-thou litter-pickers though; we very much enjoy larking around and playing tag too! 😉

Yesterday whizzed by in a flash! And our memories must be deceiving us...because there are recollections of sea-faring visitors needing help to return to the canal, and lost shells, and raft-construction...

It was a long day. We must have been imagining things...

Our Home Edders are ready for work, rest & play in 2024!

We've been looking through our photo album from last term's Friday Home Ed community and LOVING how the pictures show the brilliant blend of activities that have taken place.

Our Home Ed community sessions are completely consent-based and self-directed (like everything we do); as such, everything you see in the pictures has been driven by the young people at the heart of our community.

We start back on 12th January in our group of a dozen or so Friday Bramblewood-ers. If you, or someone else you know, might be interested in some halcyon days tucked away in a secret grove in the centre of Worcester, drop us a message. As our Bramblewood calendar year came to an end this week, we had an opportunity to feel gratitude for what has take place this year, as well as reflect on the wonderful possibilities of the new seasons to come.

Thank you to our whole community of families, individuals, of more-than-human plants and animals, for making our little pocket of woodland in central Worcester such a wonderfully special nugget of loveliness 🌱❤️🦊

From an idea can come...everything!

6 years ago today. Our first steps into Bramblewood!!!

And now look... and there's so so so many more 'moments' and people and birds and bobbins to celebrate. With love and admiration for all those bonkers enough to mud it out and give of yourselves, in a 1.3 acre patch of woody brambly life xxx

What's so 'alternative' about a warm, connected community?!

Our Tuesday community is classed as an 'alternative' provision. But really, it's about building meaningful, trusting connections and relationships...so we'd like to think it's not such a radical idea!

In the morning yesterday, we tracked dinosaur footprints and made more attachments to our treehouse before spending the afternoon at the park and then making bows and arrows 🏹

Bramblewood took another quick breather today, before we welcome our adult wellbeing group to the hearth on Thursday 🥰

A new week begins with our Monday volunteer commun

A new week begins with our Monday volunteer community...

Protected from the rain by our trusty roof, our wonderful volunteers made a new gate post, a new tippy tap, cleared a new-old path and enjoyed each other's company with soup, bread, biscuits and tea!

Ten glorious days of unschooling!

We checked the calendar today and saw that our new Friday home educator community has already had ten sessions since September. Probably better drop the 'new' tag then...

Steadily growing at a rate that everyone is comfortable with, our consent-based community has been enjoying self-directed sessions once a week since the heatwave of early September right through to the current delicious squelchyness of late November.

We are now a group of just under a dozen young people, aged 5-14, supported by four fun-loving and attuned adult facilitators.

Another cracking day for our Saturday self-directed community in the woods. A couple of dozen happy, squelchy people following their interests and their instincts. Beats Christmas shopping any day of the week!
